About Honda Campus All-Star Challenge
The 2010-2011 season marks the 22nd year of the Honda Campus All-Star Challenge program (HCASC for short). It is a call to action for students at America's Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs for short) -- to show their smarts, join a national community of like-minded thinkers (and future leaders) and in the process, earn grants for their schools.
HCASC is open to all 4-year degree granting HBCUs in the continental US. Competition begins in the fall with Campus Tournaments, open to all students. The top players from those tournaments join the HCASC Club. The club meets regularly to master the skills of the game and to increase their knowledge base. In early winter, the coach selects the four players that will form the academic team.
There is a rigorous qualification process and of the 80+ enrolled HBCUs, 48 are selected annually to compete at the National Championship Tournament in late spring. Nearly 300 students, coaches, volunteers and staff attend the 3-day event. The centerpiece of the action is the game play, as teams battle it out to make the Sweet Sixteen and then the championship itself.
Who is involved?
HCASC is a collaborative effort -- the HBCUs themselves, volunteers from across the nation, Honda associates and College Bowl Company staff join forces to present the program.
In addition, the Association of College Unions International (ACUI for short) and the National Association for Equal Opportunity in Higher Education (NAFEO for short) are educational partners in the program.
