Pre-NCT Tournaments

The Pre-NCTs this year take on new importance with the new game format. We have modified the process to facilitate all institutions having an opportunity to attend a pre-NCT tournament. We anticipate that there will be six to eight PNCTs.

We are inviting participating HBCUs to apply to be a host this year. The deadline is September 23, 2011.

As a Pre-NCT host, you will provide a vital training experience to teams preparing for the National Championship Tournament. This year we have set several new guidelines and have resources available to assist.

National Guidelines

  • All Pre-NCTs will be held the same weekend: Friday, February 17 - Sunday, February 19, 2012.
  • Each location will be limited to 15 teams (three divisions of five). Schools can participate in only one Pre-NCT.
  • HCASC will facilitate promotion through the newsletter, emails, the HCASC Blog and Facebook.
  • HCASC will handle the registration for Pre-NCTs and send registrations to the hosts as they are received.
  • Space permitting, B-teams may be admitted after the initial registration deadline (January 27, 2012). Participating institutions may indicate a desire for a B-team slot at the time of registration, but it will not be confirmed until the registration deadline.
  • The PNCTs will be run as a modified round robin (10 games) with a playoff (three to five games).
  • HCASC will provide webinar training for hosts.
  • HCASC will supply a customized database for the tournament which has the institutions and players already loaded into it, with ready to print:
    Nametags
    Nameplates
    Game questions
    Rosters
    Schedule of games
  • Senior HCASC staff/personnel may be available to assist on-site with the tournament.
  • National Volunteers may be available to serve as moderators.
  • Each Pre-NCT will conduct a random draw the morning of the tournament to place teams into the divisions.
